After five incredibly popular seasons, the hosts of HGTV’s beloved Fixer Upper have announced that their show is set to come to an end. This came as a surprising announcement to many this week, and fans have expressed sadness at the news.
In a blog post entitled “Our Last Season”, powerhouse couple Chip and Joanna Gaines announced the news this week from their farm in hometown Waco, Texas. The couple explained that they were making the right decision for them, that their marriage is strong, and their family is healthy. Joanna explained to People magazine that they want to spend some time refocusing on family and on their other businesses. Of their children Joanna said, “They’re so young, and we want to give them the chance to have a normal childhood. Family is the most important thing in the world.”
They wrote, “This is just us recognizing that we need to catch our breath for a moment. Our plan is to take this time to shore up and strengthen the spots that are weak, rest the places that are tired and give lots of love and attention to both our family and our businesses.”
The couple have conquered the home improvement world with Fixer Upper, their retail market in Waco that draws tens of thousands of people every week, multiple retail lines, real estate ventures and a new book coming out this October titled Capital Gaines: Smart Things I Learned Doing Stupid Stuff.
Their journey has been amazing, capturing the imaginations and inspiration of millions of fans of their home improvement show. They made sure to say thank you to all of the supportive fans for the incredibly journey, as well as how much God has blessed their lives.

They wrote, “We are really, really proud of season 5. We laid it all on the field and didn’t hold anything back. We think it’s the perfect finale to this amazing journey we’ve been on. Season 5 begins in November and Behind the Design will follow shortly after. There’s so much good, new stuff coming your way!”
It sounds like we have much, much more to look forward to in the future from Joanna and Chip.
