In the wake of widespread flooding in Houston, one midwife had to get creative when traveling to an expectant mother: she floated her way there on a swan. It was inflatable of course, but it was still a swan!
Faced with a flooded street, Midwife Cathy Rude managed to arrange a ride on her neighbor’s bird float, which she and her equipment road to a truck waiting to drive them the remaining few miles. Later that day, Rude helped the mother deliver a healthy baby boy.
The role of a midwife is therefore diverse, flexible, and must be responsive to the unique needs of individual women and their families. Snow, Hale or even a Hurricane wouldn’t have stopped this hero from achieving her duties.
