Your Kids Will Love these DIY Lava Lamps

This is a great way to spend a lazy weekend afternoon with the kids! DIY Lava Lamps are so easy to make and you probably have all the materials you need on hand already.

In terms of the container you use, basically, anything transparent with a lid will work perfectly. We added glitter to ours to get a fun sparkling effect, and you could experiment with adding sequins or small beads.

Materials

  • Clear Water/Soda Bottles with Lids (make sure they’re cleaned before using)

  • Vegetable Oil

  • Water

  • Food Coloring

  • Alka-Seltzer Tablets

  • Sparkles (optional)

Directions

Pour vegetable oil into the bottles until they’re about 3/4 of the way filled.

Next, fill up with water.
After the water is added add 10 drops of food coloring in each bottle.
Now add your glitter (if using). You can also experiment with sequins, small beads, etc.
Now it’s time to add the Alka-Seltzer tabs. Once they’re added your lava lamps will really come to life! Place a cap on the bottles as to not spill the liquids and save to use again in the future!
